“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse,”
A book that kept you up so late, everyone else was asleep.
The last books I remember reading while everyone else was asleep, were the Harry Potter ones. Back then it didn’t matter if I didn’t sleep at night, now I can’t imagine not sleeping. I would regret it immensely 😉
“And Mama in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap,”
A book that made you fall asleep.
I fall asleep easily when I’m reading. There’s no book in specific I’ve read this year that made me more sleepy than others. I get sleepy no matter what.
“When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter,”
A book, or a book scene that made your heart race.
The end of Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. Suddenly, everything happens at once and you want to stop it but you can’t..
“when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer,”
An object in a book that was utterly magical/ Or a magical book .
The best magical book I read this year was Uprooted. Such a great story.
“With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick,”
A twinkle-eyed book character that made you happy.
Will Herondale from the Infernal Devices. I always imagined him with a twinkle in his eye.
“so up to the house-top the coursers they flew, with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too,”
A book that made you fly to another land.
Station Eleven, I was completely absorbed in that story.
“And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, the prancing and pawing of each little hoof,”
A book creature you love.
Does Baz count? He’s a vampire and my favourite creature of the year. Carry On was a good book but it was mostly Baz that made it great.
“He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot,”
A character that proved to be more than his /her first impression.
Tessa Gray from the Infernal Devices. At first, I thought she was very boring but she really grew as the story continued.
“He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly,”
A book or book character that made you laugh.
Hazel (The Fault in Our Stars) made me laugh more in the first ten pages than any other book character.
“A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread,”
A book that makes you feel safe.
Any Harry Potter..
“He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk,”
A book that put you to work (a book that you felt you really needed to concentrate on)
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It’s a big book, so it took a long time to read even though I flew through it. It took some concentration to fully understand everything that was going on in the beginning.
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
A book with a magnificent ending
My favourite ending to a book I read this year? Without a doubt Uprooted. It was amazing!
See you again tomorrow!
