Blogmas Day 22: The Wild Things – Dave Eggers***

Jack runs away from home to go live with his father. He takes a boat to sail to the city but he gets lost and eventually arrives on an island where the wild things live. They decide that he will be their king.

The first book I read for the Christmas Booktube-a-thon was The Wild Things by Dave Eggers based on the children’s book Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.
I had started it over a year ago but lost interest about halfway through. But since one of the challenges was ‘Read a book with red and green on the cover’ and this was the only book I have with red and green, I picked off my shelf and read the remaining 149 pages. I can’t say that I enjoyed them.

I like the idea of kids imagining a world of their own, a world that’s better, more fun and where things happen according to their own rules. This book was a bit too much for me. I like the children’s book though but written out it just got so much stranger. ‘Strange’ should come as no surprise when the wild things show their love by eating you.

The wild things cried
Please don’t go
We’ll eat you up
We love you so

I think that sometimes, people love stories too much. For example, why do they make three hobbit movies, when the book was so short? (Money? Yes, probably money..) More is not always better.

If you want to learn more about the wild things or if you’d like to immerse yourself in the story than you might enjoy this book. For me it was too much and too strange.

Have you read it? Did you like it?
Or did you, like me, enjoy the original more?

Sweet dreams & see you tomorrow!
Only two more days ’til Christmas 😊
